Kanwar Nijher, CPA, EA
Kanwar is a licensed CPA in Washington State and is also an Enrolled Agent with the IRS. He began his career as a young aspiring CA in India, and quickly moved up the corporate ladder to a publicly listed Indian Conglomerate within the Finance & Accounting Team. He was eventually promoted to Chief Financial Officer of this Conglomerate. At the age of 38 years old, while his career was at its peak, he made the tough decision to relocate his family to USA and start afresh. This opportunity led him to combine his Accounting and Finance knowledge with entrepreneurship to start Nitax Services, Inc (now Unity Business Advisors).
Over the years, he has helped his community by actively being involved with all of his clients and has assisted them grow their portfolios and net worth through strategic business and tax planning. He began the business with 1 client, and through his hard work and success has watched it blossom into a mid-size CPA Firm that prides itself in providing sound, ethical, business, accounting and tax advice to a vast array of small business and individual clients.
Outside of work, Kanwar enjoys spending quality time with his wife and family, including his 4 young grandchildren whom he loves very much. He enjoys traveling and relaxing at Lake Cavanaugh. His hobbies include playing tennis, watching sports, yoga and learning about the financial markets.
Mick Nijher, CPA, CTP
As the CEO of Unity Business Advisors, Mick has been at the forefront of tax and accounting in the Greater Seattle Community since 2010. Leading a passionate team of 20 professionals, the team is dedicated to aiding small business owners in achieving their aspirations through astute tax and business advisory. With over 15 years in the industry, Mick's experience includes a significant tenure at PwC in San Francisco, granting him a depth of insight into multifaceted tax matters.
Mick holds a CPA license in Washington State, has earned a Master of Professional Accounting in Taxation from the University of Washington, and boasts a Certified Tax Coach designation from the American Institute of Certified Tax Planners. Additionally, Mick serves as a Xero Local Ambassador and is an esteemed member of the Rootworks Advisory Council. In these roles, Mick collaborates with fellow industry leaders to offer guidance and support to both Xero and Rootworks on pivotal issues in the tax and accounting industry. Eager to share his knowledge, Mick regularly engages with clients, colleagues, and the broader community about all aspects of Business Advisory.
On a personal note, Mick cherishes moments spent with his wife Karen and their children, Ariana & Aiden. Mick loves to travel with his family, and he has a keen love for the outdoors. Whether it's hiking, running, working out, or any fitness activity, he’s up for the challenge. Seattle sports are another passion, and Mick is always ready for discussions on that front. #GoHawks
Umer Rizvi, CPA, CTP
Umer found his home at Unity Business Advisors after starting his career at Grant Thornton, LLP in Seattle, Washington in 2010. Umer’s areas of focus include tax and business consulting in addition to preparation of business financial statements, & tax returns (individual & business). Umer is passionate about his work and committed to providing exceptional service by building strong relationships with his clients. Umer is a licensed CPA in Washington State, and has a Bachelors in Accounting from the University of Washington, and a Masters of Taxation from the University of Washington. Additionally, Umer is now a Certified Tax Coach (CTC) and is in the process of becoming a Certified Tax Planner (CTP); therefore, spending most of his time on the advisory side of the practice. Umer has been a part of the ownership group of Unity Business Advisors since 2022.
Outside of work, Umer enjoys spending quality time with his wife Unsa and daughter Izzah. Umer plays cricket and was part of the Northwest Cricket League. Additionally, he enjoys outdoor activities such as paragliding and scuba diving and wants to skydive in the future.
Prince Rataul, CPA, CTP
Prince Rataul is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed to practice in the State of Washington. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Washington and a Master of Taxation from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.
Before joining Unity Business Advisors., Prince worked at several reputable national firms, including Ernst & Young in Phoenix and Deloitte Tax in Seattle. His experience ranges from serving a wide variety of individual and business clients in diverse industries to collaborating with some of the nation's most talented tax and legal professionals. Prince has also had direct engagements with federal and state governing agencies.
In January 2023, Prince took an exciting new step by joining the ownership group at Unity Business Advisors. In his current role as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), he is dedicated to staying updated on the ever-changing landscape of technology advancements in the accounting and taxation fields. Prince is committed to adopting and implementing technologies that not only streamline staff operations but also provide an outstanding customer experience.
Prince particularly enjoys working closely with local business owners at United Business Advisors, helping them with comprehensive tax planning and seamless accounting integration from startup to succession.
Outside of work, Prince is happily married to his wife, Inder, and they are proud parents of Sana and Zoravar, their four-year-old daughter and one-year-old son. In his free time, Prince enjoys traveling, indulging in sports, and exploring different local restaurants.
Karen Nijher, CPA, CFE
Karen Nijher, CPA, CFE - Karen is the Accounting Manager at Unity Business Advisors and is highly involved in the oversight of bookkeeping/accounting and financial statement preparation. She oversees the accounting process and continually makes changes so that client projects can be completed in a timely, efficient, and high-quality manner. Karen has been a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for 13 years; 8 years in Washington and 5 years in California. She has also been a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) for 13 years. In the past, Karen has worked in the accounting department of Amazon, a multinational technology company, where she obtained significant accounting knowledge related to retail revenue recognition, operating expenses and accrual accounting, analytical skills particularly related to budgeted vs actual financial results, and project management skills related to business launches and the related accounting needs related to those launches. Karen has also worked at two of the largest public accounting firms worldwide, Ernst & Young in Sacramento, San Jose and San Francisco, and PricewaterhouseCoopers in Seattle.
Outside of work, Karen is very passionate about all things related to music including attending concerts (at least 25 so far), as well as attending musicals. She loves to travel, be on the water, go for hikes, read books, attend live theater, watch movies, and spend time with her husband and two children.
